Still curious?

Most (if not all) neighborhood tailors do not offer in-home service. Additionally, my education exceeds something purely technical by way of being both a tailor and an artist. My multi-faceted approach to my trade allows me to find creative solutions to things many tailors might turn away. I aim to not only offer as many services as I can, but to deliver them in a way that feels as personal as it does luxurious.

House calls must be booked at least 48 hours prior to the date needed. I require a $50 deposit, which will be applied to the final invoice upon delivery. Clients must have a full length mirror and laundered garments. On the day of your appointment, you will receive either a text or an email with a final confirmation. Please keep your phone handy in the hour leading up to your appointment for updates about travel time and arrival. Please be advised that addresses more than 10mi outside of my workshop’s zip code (33127) are not eligible for this kind of appointment.
During your appointment, please keep pets and children at a comfortable distance since there will be sharp objects (shears, pins, razors) present. I always take extra care to never leave anything behind or out of sight, but we still don’t want anyone getting hurt! While life can get hectic and spaces can get messy, I do ask to keep the area of our fitting as clean as possible. I am a judgement free professional, and for your garment(s) to be fit accurately, a clutter free space helps to ensure that I can move freely around you while working.
I recommend house calls to anyone and everyone, but there are certain groups of people who they benefit greatly. People with mobility issues, disabilities, working parents, or parents with young children, elderly individuals, or those with incredibly busy schedules. Everyone needs clothes that fit, and whatever the circumstance is, Steel Tailoring is here to make it happen.

In lieu of a traditional brick and mortar location with point of sales, Steel Tailoring works with an invoice structure. An approximate quote is given once your fitting is completed, and once services have been performed, a final invoice is given upon delivery. Steel Tailoring is working to expand the range of payment options, but for now is limited to CashApp, Apple Pay, and wire transfer. Instructions on how to fulfill payment are listed on the back of your invoice. If payment is not fulfilled within 10 days of delivery, your account will be considered delinquent and no further services will be performed.

Original finishing means to carefully take apart a garment, make the necessary adjustments, and then put it back exactly as it was. This doesn’t just refer to the structural integrity, but also thread composition, stitch length, and machine tension. Original finishing is a technique that helps to ensure the longevity of a piece, and often times improves the fit, too.

Pattern replication is simply the act of taking one ready-made piece apart and copying its shape and specs onto the Manila paper used in pattern drafting. In this context, I use pattern copying to create an “infinite glitch” of pieces you love that, perhaps, don’t come in a specific color/textile, or aren’t made anymore. Moreover, pattern copying provides an excellent way to capsule your wardrobe in a (semi) bespoke way.

Unfortunately Steel Tailoring does not offer bridal alterations, but does offer referrals to other professionals that do. Steel Tailoring’s focus leans more towards project based and bespoke services in addition to tailoring.

These specialized Japanese techniques are used to repair and customize denim with an emphasis on decorative stitching and sturdy restoration.
Boro uses fabric scraps and running stitches to patch denim, and comes from the Japanese word boroboro, which means “something tattered or repaired.”
Sashiko is a traditional Japanese embroidery technique meaning “little stabs” and is hand stitched, most commonly with decorative patterns.
Labels such as Kapital are famous for using these techniques as motifs in their designs, but have been elements of mending and design for hundreds of years in Japan.

My custom design process is true bespoke, meaning that your piece is one-of-one and made only for you.
Clients get to participate and work very closely with me throughout the process, with expected completion anywhere from 4-8 weeks depending on the complexity of the design. In some cases (especially with heavy embellishment) this may take up to 12 weeks.
Pieces will usually have 4 fittings: two with your toile, and two with your final garment. All fittings are fully private and will take anywhere from 1-2 hours per session.
True couture must be made in France to be considered as such, nonetheless, my workshop adheres to the same guidelines of an atelier. All of my customs are mostly hand-made with little machine intervention.
Clients will also receive a personalized design book documenting the whole process:
mood boarding and illustrations
Textiles swatches
Progress photos
Fashion photography of the final product
Customs are also insured for life with my studio with all changes, repairs, or future alterations free of charge.

Yes! Vintage pieces are among my favorites to work with because of their construction. The only exception is when a vintage piece has been chemically preserved. Chemicals such as formaldehyde, Paradichlorobenzene, Naphthalene fluorocarbons, PFAs, and biocides are all hazardous materials which cause an array of adverse health effects.

Short answer, yes!
If your weight fluctuates naturally, due to a condition, or being postpartum, a good tailor is your best friend. You should never have to miss out on wearing your favorite pieces. I can make (almost) any garment as big or as small as needed.

While it is extremely rare that something gets missed or damaged, it can happen here and there. I try to keep meticulous track of everything that gets serviced, and a big part of my process is slowing down and focusing on quality as opposed to quantity. However, in the event that scissors slip or a machine jams, you will be notified immediately if the damage goes beyond reparation. Before your item(s) gets delivered, it is my policy to inspect everything that was done. If you notice an issue after the fact, please reach out to support, helpdesk@steeltailoring.com.
If you are unhappy with the final product, Steel tailoring is happy to provide a re-do at no additional cost, or a partial or full refund of your total. Bear in mind that some garments may require a second or third fitting depending on complexity of services performed.

Aside from the obvious, children’s alterations are done slightly differently than adult alterations.
Typically seam allowances are trimmed down so as to not needlessly bulk up tension points in clothing. With children’s clothing, especially items made for very young children, seam allowances are not trimmed in the same way. This allows your tailor to size up and down as much as needed so the garment grows with the child. At Steel Tailoring, there is also not the same premium charge for kid’s clothing (13 and under), with a 20% deduction from the unit price of standard alterations.

No, you do not have to start over. Like with everything else, I keep meticulous track of what happens in my shop. You will be given a new one upon request.
